Trading platforms – CMC Markets, IG Index or ETrade?

This week I have again observed that CMCMarkets updated its software, so I decided writing my thoughts in your Creator market trading platform.

The Creator of CMC Markets Market seems to be a great piece of software when it comes to resources the system. As I use Linux, I run MarketMaker (the latest version, 5-something) * VMWare emulator on a virtual Windows 2000, allowing access to 256 MB of RAM just my laptop and 512 MB of my desk. The laptop, which runs by itself, and on the desktop when I use CMCMarkets MarketMaker have to compete with the Ninja Trader platform resource hungry (that's good by the way – give it a try!). The image I use is a stock with Win2K SP4 updates and without software, but GM and NT. I've never had a single problem.

On the other hand, I fire the web platform E * Trade or with IG Index cards with a recent fire compilation time standard options and flags, and it's slow, eats memory as was going out of fashion, and the slowest laptop, especially pin CPU. These are the last two machines, and in general I'm running nothing but fluxbox (a lightweight window manager – do not use more than about 60 MB of my 512 the system is fully booted) on the laptop, and KDE with a few programs on the desktop.

Note that some of this is specific to Linux, but always an emulator is slower than a native operating system. Therefore, I would expect that the performance of Win2K under VMWare under Linux KDE to be much worse than native Win2K, except MM seems to be more sensitive to the orders and the mapping to the Java platform based on any site. I even tried Internet Explorer in the virtual machine and is equally resource hungry.

This is just my opinion, but even that is not compatible with Linux (And it should be because it is based on Java), we applaud CMCMarkets for MarketMaker software. In my experience the real footprint of resources that is trivial compared to having to run a whole browser, a Java plug-inefficient, and then some really bloated Java applications. It has its flaws that are too numerous to go into here, but suffice to say that participated in a recent survey spread betting CMC customers in their platform, and hope to see more types of orders, such as If Done "… etc in the near future.

I have to say I was thrown to MarketMaker after losing reach them yet ETX Capital. Now I use some platforms, including standard interfaces for ETX Capital, E * Trade, CMC Creators Markets, IG Index (just to check prices mostly), Ninja Trader (Ideal for trade simulation), and a pack of friendly exchange simulation of Oanda (take a look to trade paper currency.)

A final CMCMarkets note on customer service – I can not really comment much here since I've never had any problems. All the spread betting firms quote their products and spreads on the web. If you have a betting account, it may be better to give your data to talk to people who deal with customers. An investigation Sales is something different, I suppose, but still …
