Do you really have a clear understanding of raw talent? Is there such thing as a born trader?
I think there are innate talent, but I also think playing much less of a role in the success of what we think. Given two traders with equal ability, who works harder will win. Like any other field.
Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers, sites a study by The Academy of Music in Berlin. The study aimed to discover to what extent is talent. In the study of the most promising violinists schools were divided into three groups. Group one consisted of insurance to be "world class" players. The second group were classified in a more "good" and finally more unlikely "to play professionally" category.
All students began playing at about the same age, around five years old. They also performed on the same three hours a week. After some years spent however, things changed. Students become the greatest success began to escalate their practice sessions. At the age of twelve who were playing sixteen hours a week, and then thirty hours a week by the time they are twenty years. Turns out, at the age of twenty years, the position worldwide in more than ten thousand hours compared with about eight in the group two and four thousand hours for the group of three.
Gladwell notes that "This research suggests that once a musician has the capacity to enter a top music school, what distinguishes an artist from another is how hard he or she works. That's all. "
I think we can apply to any school or profession. Larry Bird was not the most athletic type the NBA, but his constant practice, firing frequency at Boston Garden before or after games alone in the dark, hours.
Gladwell also points out that John Lennon and Paul McCartney actually started playing together in 1957, before forming the Beatles in 1960. At the time they reach some success at the end of 1963 there had been an estimated 1200 times. In fact, they had played together more than 10 years after the school day, the release of Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band. How many hours was that? I bet more than 10,000.
Even prodigies like Mozart, into time. His first original masterpiece was recognized Concerto No. 9, which he composed when he was twenty years old. For twenty-one, however, Mozart had been composing for over ten years. 10,000 hours Not again!
Some people think the stress of hard work will kill you, but I think it depends on the passion. Practicing hard on something that love is the same as the hard work. It only appears that way to people who do not care for this particular company. I always work in my trade and I never feel like working hard. In fact, not working hard enough as it is more stressful for me. It reminds me of quote from Malcolm Forbes once said "retirement has killed more people than hard work I did."
